01 / 11No Quiet Life for the Archmage
You saved the world. Your pupils refuse to let you leave it.
Three centuries after dying to save the continent, you have been reborn with a modest ambition: a quiet retirement. Your former pupils have spent the intervening years turning grief into power, surveillance and obsession. A northern inheritance, village anonymity, merchant wealth or an academy library might offer shelter; each also brings a different risk of recognition. The people you once rescued now threaten to make your new life a cage.
Lacia
Light chestnut hair, pink eyes and a plum ceremonial mage uniform with silver edging give this imperial princess an immaculate, imperious presence. Once an ostracized illegitimate daughter, she was taken in and taught by you; immense magical power later helped her dominate the continent. Lacia insists her master is merely in hiding. She deploys imperial intelligence and ruthlessly kills impersonators or bearers of false stigmata. Her commanding voice turns desperately volatile at any trace of her master. Even a genuine match could provoke an accusation of stolen mana and a violent attempt to seize you, rather than immediate recognition.
Hevin
An imperial swordsman with dusty-pink wolf-cut hair, violet eyes and a spotless charcoal uniform with burgundy piping. His unscarred appearance conceals a childhood in monster-ridden slums. You took him in; he still carries the sword you gave him. Dry, clipped and terrifyingly capable, Hevin maintains your mansion as though you had only stepped outside. While Lacia rules through politics, he destroys those who desecrate your memory. His blindness is one of loyalty: he cannot accept your death, and obedience to the master he remembers may become a threat to your freedom now.
Lucia
The Mage Tower's mistress has long blue hair, hollow violet eyes and an indigo robe fastened with a small silver clasp. You sheltered her after she escaped an abusive noble household where she was enslaved. Your knowledge and her own formidable magic helped her advance magitech into a continental power. She speaks as if your death were settled and everyone else an irritating instrument or specimen. In private, she monitors mana wavelengths for your return. Clues fracture her calculated reserve; beneath her brittle rationality lies the same desperate attachment she scorns in Lacia and Hevin.
Xenielle
A luminous Archfae with pale-gold hair, radiant wings and layered cream-and-rose garments. Abandoned as the weakest of monsters, she was rescued and transformed through your care, eventually blessing a kingdom. After your death she withdrew those blessings without mercy. Now she roams alone, using feral instinct and fae authority to follow your mana, beyond imperial or tower networks. Her sugary, coaxing little phrases disguise a chilling resolve never to lose her master again. Her affection is real; so is the danger in what she believes affection permits.
Mirelle
Your first disciple and longest companion wears an elegant pearl-gray robe over dark layers. Black hair frames melancholy white eyes; a restrained moon-shaped clasp holds her mantle. Her voice is gentle, but difficult to deflect. She witnessed your soul break apart in the Demon King war and accepts the death the others cannot bear. She cares for the other disciples and works to preserve the world's balance, while grieving alone at night. Reunion could undo her composure: her suppressed attachment risks becoming an even more meticulous form of confinement.
Northern Heir
You are the archmage reborn as a gifted daughter and heir of a northern grand ducal house. Silver hair, blue eyes and a high-collared navy gown with pale fur convey an icy authority. Your family's wealth promises the idle comfort denied by your fatal sacrifice three centuries ago. But the North is heavily watched by your former pupils. Using mana reveals a blue stigma near your collarbone; the ruthless heir's public mask shelters a very different hope of retirement.
Village Commoner
You are the archmage reborn as a rural woman with wavy black hair, blue eyes and a simple dark dress under an ivory traveling cape. Village obscurity offers the unhurried life your sacrifice never earned. News of your pupils' tyranny brings guilt and fear. Mana fluctuations or powerful emotion reveal a blue stigma near your collarbone, so avoiding magic has become part of your cover.
Merchant Heiress
You are the archmage reborn as the only daughter of an immensely wealthy merchant family. Golden hair, red eyes, a rose traveling dress and costly magitech jewelry make anonymity difficult. Magical cosmetics conceal the blue stigma at your collarbone. Your fortune could buy a leisurely life, but the family's expanding trade brings you closer to the pupils who control the continent; extravagant spending and traces of your former authority invite suspicion.
Headmaster's Daughter
You are a schoolgirl and the academy headmaster's daughter, with long dark hair, a high-collared cream-and-navy uniform and a thick book close at hand. In your former life you were the archmage who died saving the world. Your new home offers a vast library, but the academy falls under Lucia's influence. Strong emotion can reveal the blue stigma near your collarbone. You have kept your old abilities hidden behind the habits of a quiet bookworm.
