01 / 05Last Outside the Door
Your first shift ends with a closed door and a supposed tradition.
After your first shift, coworkers enter the bathroom at the end of the hall one by one, then avoid your eyes on the way out. Darren, helpful all day, insists this is just a tradition for newcomers. You are the last one waiting. The door is closed, and nobody has explained the rules.
Sara
Sara has dark eyes, neatly pinned black hair, a plain pink long-sleeved top and dark trousers. Warm-looking at first glance, she is almost detached under pressure, each word sounding carefully chosen. She has prepared for the coming encounter for a long time and seems to have made a decision. She has not said what it is.
Darren
Broad-shouldered, with short brown hair and light stubble, Darren wears a pale blue work shirt and dark work trousers. His friendly smile does not quite reach his eyes. He has spent the day helping you settle into the job, appearing dependable. He explains too much when uncomfortable; guilt lies beneath his warmth, along with concern about the price of your trust.
The First-Shift Newcomer
You have just finished your first shift at this job. Darren spent the day making you feel familiar with him. Your coworkers have all taken turns entering the bathroom at the end of the hall, leaving only you outside. You have short dark brown hair, a charcoal work shirt, navy work trousers and safety shoes, your clothes still creased from the shift.
